Naoshima landscape with mixed media

Here I just did mixed media painting with watercolor and soft pastel. I painted from the photo of Naoshima island of Kagawa Japan.
Painted on watercolor paper, 51 by 41 cm.

I was struggling all summer class, but I received A for it! Not it is paid off, and my teacher said I should do more of this kind of mixed media landscape and I am thinking to continue more.

FA 499 2nd soft pastel painting, eland

I was still struggling what my teacher means to do with this soft pastel.

Now I am practicing painting oil pastel. I was little worried to get started, because it is like oil paint, I thought there was no way to go back with mistake. But once getting started, actually oil pastel is less messy and blend well with other colors. No need to use fixative or clean dust powder of the soft pastel.

Final works from Surrealism class

>Discuss elements and techniques you employ in your own work that may be reminiscent of those employed by the Old Masters.

My Painting 3 background is reminiscent to Magrette as I mentioned before. (which may not be Old old master though). My background image is cloud and blue sky on little group of helicopters. I want to depict modern city is up on the sky like a fantasy, but somehow saying that life is realistic, but dreamy sometime in my mind. (but can be interpreted other ways from other viewers) It is like when you live in San Francisco for example, you see what is going there, but you tend to not care about what is going on in other part of the world, because you are involved in the place, so the "place" is like just a floating surface like a little carpet.

Doraemon, the Japanese character is a cat robot who came from the future and get whatever you wish from his pocket. (but funny gadgets) This image is he is flying with Takekopter which is a little toy from Asia, but his gadget make himself to fly when he put on his head. I associate his Takekopter when I decided to use the sky image, if I could tell my wish to fly and go somewhere. I think it can relate to my subconscious feeling to get away and have whatever my wishes.

I tend to get stuck while I am taking class, so it is my feeling to fly away where ever I can.

One thing I was not satisfied about this project, we did not received my instructor's comment yet. So I will post here and other artist sites and hope to have some feedback from anybody.

Spring is almost over!!

Hi, Academy of Art University Spring semester is over on 22th of May, (in Japan, 23rd).

I will have one month holiday before starting Summer class. It starts June 21.

I will travel in the country and visit galleries, events, temples and do some walking that I could not do too much during the semester.

If I make some works beside school works, I will post in here. Now time to promote and get out from my studio. (which is living room in my house. I don't have actual studio yet.)

# I borrowed this image from Academy online site.

my mail art page
I think that is the think I want to do, mail art, book art, collage, mixed media etc, so it would be inspiring and have an opportunity to join some events there.

I just received a couple of mail art from the people there. Thanks and I will to post it here soon!
